Counseling Techniques
As a counselor, I strive to create a space of safety and support, where each client feels heard and is comfortable to begin the discovery of themselves and the journey to a happier, healthier life.
Within us all is the potential to live our best life, to be our best self, to have fulfilling relationships, to feel good in the morning when we wake up and satisfied with our lives when we fall asleep. We all also have the ability to be our own worst enemy, to gather negativity in our lives, to create destructive pattens which defies our desire for a life full of peace and happiness. The choice is each of ours to make.
Choosing counseling is the first step. As your counselor, I am here to assist you in creating the personal self, relationships, career, family, and life that you can see in your mind and heart but are having difficulty forming into reality. Counseling is a discovery of the self, where in this journey clients find the joy and fulfillment they have been searching for, realizing it has been within them the whole time.
Therapeutic Approach
My primary therapeutic approach is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I also incorporate Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Compassion Focused Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Humanistic Therapy, Trauma Focused Therapy, Art Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), and Positive Psychology. Having knowledge of multiple approaches allows me to provide personalized individual counseling tailored to each client.
About Me
I have always been able to tune into other’s feelings and have a deep sense of empathy and compassion towards them. I remember being three-years-old and sitting out a birthday party with a boy who was sad, just sitting there and being present with him until he felt better and joined the party again.
This essence radiated into my teenage years when I was sent to an emotional growth boarding school in remote northern Idaho. It was within this intense and unique environment that I decided I wanted to help others when I grew up, that I could sense not only their emotions but also their most honest and real self. I could see the best in them, their potential, if only they believed in themselves and could see their truth.
The journey from then to now has been a long and winding road; in my twenties, backpacking through Europe for an entire summer with my best friend, visiting the pyramids in Egypt, living and working in New Zealand for an amazing six months. Then getting married and having four beautiful children; living through an intensely emotionally abusive relationship with their dad; finally setting myself and my kids free; learning to set boundaries and to care about myself; watching my small babies grow into big wonderfully goofy teenagers; and reaching my potential by coming full circle, being an educated and experienced counselor who can really help people and support them.
I have personal experience with grief, anxiety, and trauma, which allows me a deep sense of compassion and understanding for others. Having a family of my own, I am familiar with the struggles and challenges of marriage, parenthood, divorce, co-parenting, and raising teenagers.
I strongly advocate for and support the LGBTQ+ community, as some of my dearest and most beloved friends and chosen family are of this community. I wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
I understand work stress and burnout, dissatisfaction with careers, and the struggle to keep balance between work and home.
Ultimately, I have a passion for the resilience of the human self, its ability to heal, grow, discover, and create dreams into reality. Each of us have the potential to live a beautiful life. As your counselor I will be honored to support and advocate for you on your journey to self-discovery and discovering a path within you to a happier, more fulfilling life.
